What is an Education Action Zone?

An Education Action Zone (EAZ) is a group of schools that is awarded special assistance from the Department of Education & Employment. An EAZ will run projects in schools and the community that aim to raise the achievement of pupils. Funds are also provided for additional resources such as extra staff time and equipment.

EXCITE has three priorities:

To improve literacy, numeracy and the use of ICT and create a culture of achievement in schools and within the wider community.

To improve the attendance and punctuality of pupils

To improve the behaviour of pupils and to address the underlying causes of poor behaviour through effective support for pupils with health and emotional problems.
